If you’ve ever received a call that started with “Hello, this is from SBI…” and felt unsure whether to believe it, you’re not alone. With banking fraud on the rise, it’s becoming harder to tell real calls from fake ones. To clear the confusion, the State Bank of India (SBI) has shared a simple but powerful message for customers: the bank now uses only two Official SBI Numbers to call you. Knowing them can save you from scams, panic, and financial loss.
These Are the Only Official SBI Numbers That May Call You
SBI has officially confirmed that it contacts customers only through the following outgoing numbers:
Official SBI Numbers For Account, Transaction, or Service Calls
1600 108 333
This number is used when SBI needs to talk to you about:
- Account or transaction-related matters
- Service updates
- Security or risk-related verification
Official SBI Numbers For Promotional or Marketing Calls
140 9768 333
This number is used only for:
- Product offers
- Promotional information
- Service awareness campaigns
Important thing to remember: These numbers are for outgoing calls only. You cannot dial them back.
One Golden Rule: SBI Will Never Ask for Sensitive Details
SBI has repeated this warning because fraudsters still try the same tricks again and again.
No matter how genuine the caller sounds, SBI will never ask you for:
- OTP
- ATM or debit card PIN
- Internet banking password
- CVV or full card details
If someone asks for any of these and claims to be from SBI, end the call immediately.
Watch Out for “Digital Arrest” and Fake Police Threats
Another growing scam involves callers pretending to be:
- Police officers
- CBI officials
- Cybercrime authorities
They may threaten you with something called a “Digital Arrest” or claim your account is involved in illegal activity. SBI clearly warns customers not to fall for these fear tactics.
Real banks and real law enforcement agencies do not operate this way.
Why SBI Introduced These Fixed Calling Numbers
To make life easier and safer for customers, SBI’s Contact Centre and Proactive Risk Management (PRM) teams now use a limited set of identifiable numbers.
This helps customers:
- Quickly recognize genuine SBI calls
- Avoid confusion with fraud callers
- Feel more confident while answering bank calls
It’s a small change, but it makes a big difference.
What You Should Do If You Get a Suspicious Call
If a call claims to be from SBI and something feels off:
- Check the number carefully
- See if it matches the official SBI numbers
- Never share personal or banking details
- Don’t panic if the caller pressures you
- Report the call if you suspect fraud
Trust your instincts — they’re often right.
In today’s digital world, awareness is your strongest protection. Just remembering two numbers can help you avoid serious trouble.
If it’s really SBI, it will come from the official numbers.
If it’s asking for OTP or threatening you — it’s not.
Stay calm. Stay alert. And always verify before you trust.
