In a major boost to regional rail connectivity, the Railway Board has approved a new Vande Bharat Express Train between Udaipur and Ahmedabad. As a result, passengers will soon travel between the two cities in nearly four hours, significantly faster than conventional trains.
Notably, this move strengthens connectivity between Rajasthan and Gujarat while optimizing existing Vande Bharat operations.
New Vande Bharat Train Route Details
The new Vande Bharat Express will operate between:
- Udaipur City Railway Station (UDZ)
- Asarwa Railway Station, Ahmedabad
Earlier, passengers spent over six to seven hours on this route. However, the new semi-high-speed train will now complete the journey in around four hours. Therefore, business travelers and tourists will benefit the most.
Train Numbers:
- 26963 – Udaipur to Asarwa
- 26964 – Asarwa to Udaipur
Frequency:
- Runs six days a week
- Does not operate on Tuesdays
Timings (Tentative Schedule)
To ensure maximum convenience, Railways has planned morning and evening departures.
| Direction | Departure | Arrival | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Udaipur → Asarwa | 6:10 AM | 10:25 AM | ~4 hrs 15 mins |
| Asarwa → Udaipur | 5:45 PM | 10:00 PM | ~4 hrs 15 mins |
Consequently, passengers can complete same-day return trips comfortably.
Stoppages on the Route
Importantly, the train will not run as a non-stop service. Instead, it will halt at key stations to enhance regional accessibility.
Expected stoppages include:
- Zawar
- Dungarpur
- Himmatnagar
Because of these stops, passengers from southern Rajasthan and north Gujarat will gain direct access to a premium semi-high-speed service.
Two Routes to Be Withdrawn
Meanwhile, Indian Railways will discontinue two existing Vande Bharat services from Udaipur:
- Udaipur ↔ Agra Cantt
- Udaipur ↔ Jaipur
Railways plans to stop these services in mid-February 2026. This decision aims to streamline operations and allocate resources more efficiently.
Coach Configuration & Passenger Amenities
Like other Vande Bharat trains, this service will feature modern onboard facilities. Specifically, passengers can expect:
- AC Chair Car
- Executive Chair Car
- Ergonomic, rotating seats
- Automatic sliding doors
- On-board infotainment system
- Bio-vacuum toilets
- GPS-based passenger information display
- Improved suspension for smoother travel
Moreover, the train will offer airline-style comfort, better safety standards, and faster acceleration compared to traditional express trains.
Expected Fare Range
Although Railways has not yet released official ticket prices, fares will likely follow existing Vande Bharat pricing patterns.
Based on similar routes:
- AC Chair Car: ₹900 – ₹1,200
- Executive Class: ₹1,600 – ₹2,000
However, final prices will depend on distance, catering options, and dynamic pricing policies. Therefore, passengers should check IRCTC once bookings open.
Economic & Tourism Impact
This new train will likely create a positive impact on both tourism and trade.
For instance, Udaipur attracts thousands of domestic and international tourists every year. On the other hand, Ahmedabad serves as a major commercial and industrial hub. Faster connectivity will encourage weekend tourism, business travel, and same-day trips.
Furthermore, reduced travel time will lower road congestion and improve overall travel efficiency in the region.
Part of India’s Expanding Vande Bharat Network
Over the past few years, Indian Railways has aggressively expanded the Vande Bharat network. Consequently, multiple cities now enjoy semi-high-speed rail connectivity.
The Udaipur–Ahmedabad route adds another strategic link in western India. More importantly, it reflects the government’s broader push toward modern, indigenous train technology.
